Buy it where you burn it

Moving firewood long distances spreads invasive pests like the emerald ash borer, putting the forests you came up to enjoy at risk. Petroglyphs Provincial Park, Kawartha Highlands, and Crowe Lake area parks now require or strongly encourage locally-sourced wood. Buying local keeps you compliant — and protects the bush.

Any dry wood is good campfire wood

A campfire doesn't need the dense hardwoods that work best in a wood stove. Clean, dry softwood lights easily, burns well, and costs less. Species matters far less than moisture content.

Storing wood at the cottage

Keep wood off the ground, covered on top, sides open to the air — and it'll stay dry and low on bugs between visits. A simple rack or even pallets make a big difference.

Heating your cottage with wood?

If your cottage has a wood stove or fireplace insert, species and seasoning matter a lot more. See our Heating Guide for wood types, cord estimates, and burning safety.

Also available: Campfire Candles — a quick, reliable fire-starter for the cottage or campsite. Ask Jeff when you order.

Order ahead, we handle the rest.

Most campsite and cottage deliveries are arranged a day or two in advance — sometimes less if we're in the area.

1

Call or text Jeff

Tell Jeff your dates, location, and roughly how much wood you need. For campgrounds, let him know the site number or gate — he can coordinate with the office if needed.

2

We deliver to your site

Firewood arrives split and dry at your cottage, campsite, or a spot you arrange — driveways, gates, or beside a wood shed. Rural properties and seasonal roads are no problem.

3

Light up

No last-minute runs to town, no wet wood from a gas station. Just a proper fire the first night you're there — and every night after.

Depends how long you're there — here's a rough guide.

These are estimates for regular campfire use — one or two fires per evening. Adjust up if you like a big fire or it's a cold night.

Weekend camping
A small load

2–3 nights, one evening fire each. You need less than you think — call Jeff and describe the trip, he'll right-size it.

Long weekend at the cottage
¼ – ½ face cord

3–4 days of regular evening fires. A quarter face cord is plenty for most long weekends; bump up if you like a big fire.

Full cottage season
½ – 1 bush cord

May to October, most weekends. Order early in the season — dry wood stored under cover is ready whenever you are.

Not sure how much you need? Call Jeff and describe your situation — he'll give you an honest estimate in a couple of minutes.

Campfire & Cottage FAQs

Can you deliver firewood to my cottage or campsite?

Yes — we deliver campfire wood to cottages and campsites across the area, any quantity.

Why shouldn't I bring my own firewood up to the lake?

Moving wood long distances spreads invasive pests; buying local protects the local woods.

What's the best wood for a campfire?

Dry, easy-lighting wood; softwood is fine and cheaper for a recreational fire.

Can I bring firewood from home to an Ontario provincial park?

Most Ontario provincial parks strongly advise against it — and some prohibit it outright. The concern is spreading invasive forest pests like the emerald ash borer, which travel in firewood and can devastate the bush you came up to enjoy. Parks like Petroglyphs Provincial Park, Kawartha Highlands, and Crowe Lake area parks require or strongly encourage locally-sourced wood. If we cover the area, we can deliver directly to your campsite — call Jeff and he'll sort it out.

How much firewood do I need for a camping trip?

Plan on roughly one good armload of split wood per evening fire. For a 2–3 night weekend, a small load is plenty for most people. A long weekend with 4–5 nights of regular evening fires? A quarter face cord covers you comfortably, with some left over. If it's a cool stretch or you like a big, long-burning fire, bump it up — leftover dry wood keeps fine for next time. Call Jeff, describe your trip, and he'll right-size it.
